I come from a large, vibrant family, where any occasion was celebrated with special recipes and dishes.
One of the fondest memories I have of growing up is that of the family kitchen: that's where we met in between of our daily errands, the first stop upon entering the house: a cup of tea, a bite to eat, and lots of chatter.
It's where our classmates became family, and familiar with pots and spices, coz that's what our kitchen did, it made everyone feel welcome, feel at home. It all happened in the kitchen, that warm, steamy, sticky, jolly crowded room!
After being involved in the opening of Il Vecchio, Italian restaurant in Monterey, California, I realised there was an incredible curiosity towards understanding the foundations of authentic Italian food. It is then that an idea sprung to mind, a way to combine my passion for cooking, meeting people from the world over and good company.
Cookin' Rome is a way to recreate and celebrate the experience of a homely kitchen: sharing our travel stories and discovering new cultures while getting our hands into the dough, mixing up a sauce, between a chat and a glass of wine.
